The Awa Jurobe Yashiki is the former residence of Jurobe Bando, and is related to the play “Keisei Awa no Naruto”. This play is performed daily at the Awa Jurobe Yashiki, and this type of puppet performance, known in Japanese as “Awa Ningyo Joruri”, is a national Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property. A narrator known as a “tayu” recites the story, adding emotion to each part, and a gidayu shamisen (three-stringed Japanese instrument) supports the tayu with a diverse array of tones that can’t be expressed in staff notation. The puppets are each performed by three people, a true rarity in the world. The sensibility of the Japanese can be seen through these puppets and their movements. Surfing School: Enjoy the Fun of Riding the Waves! (Beginners Welcome!)
Glare Surf Shop is a surfing shop located in Tokushima City that is close to Komatsu Beach. In addition to selling and repairing surfboards and other surfing-related goods, our shop offers a surfing school. We conduct about 500 lessons each year, and the majority of participants are able to take off and enjoy surfing on the first day! Instructor Fukuda, Tokushima's first JPSA (Japan Pro Surfing Association) certified pro longboarder, gives careful lessons that, more than anything, are fun. This school is recommended for those who want to get into surfing or try a new hobby. You don't need to prepare anything, so come and enjoy us for a fun and lighthearted surfing experience! Paint a Traditional Tokushima Yusanbako Lunchbox
Ebuchi Kyoudaiten is a store in Tokushima City that specializes in woodworking, making items such as mirror stands, furniture, and other small items. Craftsmen who have mastered traditional woodworking techniques carefully create each item piece by piece to meet the needs of customers. We are offering a special opportunity for visitors to try their hand at painting a "yusanbako", a traditional craft unique to Tokushima. A yusanbako is a three-tiered wooden lunch box that was used by children for the Hina Festival (Doll Festival) and other special events until around the 1960s.They were made by parents who wished for their children to grow up and have many great memories of their childhood. They can be used for a variety of purposes, such as a lunch box or as a small item container, making it an important item to be passed down from parents to children. In front of the Daishi hall are many amulets and wooden tablets related to the safe birth of a child. At the end of the building, you will see many small wooden statues representing the main deities of the pilgrimage routes around Shikoku, Bando, Chichibu and Saigoku. This two-day tour contains a myriad of unique experiences, such as visiting a portion of the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage, staying at a temple and experiencing religious services, learning about Tokushima's indigo industry, and seeing Tokushima's famous Awa Odori dance. ◎On Day 1 you will walk a portion of the Shikoku Pilgrimage by foot.
