Okawara Plateau

This plateau is approx. 1,020 meters above sea level and offers a spectacular view of the Asan Mountains and the Kii Channel in the distance. It is also a famous place for hydrangeas, and during the rainy season, 30,000 of them are in full bloom. This is a sightseeing spot with ranches and windmills that can be easily reached within an hour's drive from downtown Tokushima. The temperature is 4 to 5 degrees cooler than in the city, so even in summer you can enjoy the beautiful scenery while feeling a cool breeze.

    30,000 Blue Hydrangeas

    The climatic conditions of the Okawara Plateau, with its high elevation and cloudy or foggy weather, are ideal for hydrangeas to grow. During the rainy season, beautiful blue flowers cover the top of the mountain. The annual "Hydrangea Festival" held in early July attracts many visitors.

    Seasonal Flowers and Grasses Cover the Mountain

    At the Okawara Plateau, azaleas are at their best from late April to mid-May, and hydrangeas are at their best in July. At night, you can also enjoy the stars in the sky and the night view of Tokushima City below.

    Enjoy Stargazing

    The high altitude and clean air of the Okawara Plateau make it an ideal place for viewing the stars. The view from the parking lot is beautiful enough, but if you want to see the stars even better, head to the Hilltop House, which has an observatory for stargazing!

Rich Soft-serve Ice Cream

With its old-fashioned atmosphere, Ikkenjaya is popular for its rich soft-serve ice cream, and there are always lines of people waiting to get in. The soft-serve ice cream is served in a cup and topped with a waffle cone, making it easy for children to eat.

Okawara Farm

From the side of Hilltop House, you can reach Okawara Farm, which is open from late April to late October during the grazing season, allowing you to see and photograph cows up close.

Large-scale Wind Power Generation Facility: Okawara Wind Farm

The Okawara Kogen Wind Power Plant, which began operations in 2009, has a total output of 19,500 kW. The sight of 15 giant wind turbines, each 60 meters high, lined up along the ridge is very impressive.
