Mt. Tsurugi

This has been chosen as one of the 100 most famous mountains in Japan. At 1,955 meters above sea level, it is the second highest mountain in western Japan and you can take the mountain lift up to near the top. After about an hour's walk from the lift, you will arrive at the summit, where the observation deck offers a wonderful panoramic view. On a clear day, you can see Mt. Ishizuchi, which rises at the western edge of the Shikoku mountain range, as well as the Seto Inland Sea and Tosa Bay in the distance.

    Hiking Trails

    With lifts and easy walking trails, even beginners can try hiking. From the starting point at Nishijima Station, four trails are available, allowing hikers to choose the course that best suits their fitness level and ability.

    Chair Lift

    You can easily get close to the summit using the lift from Minokoshi Station (elev. 1420 meters) to Nishijima Station (elev. 1750 meters) near the summit. The lift takes about 15 minutes and operates from late April to the end of November.

    Faces of the Four Seasons

    In summer, a variety of alpine plants are in full bloom. The area offers a wide variety of scenery throughout the year, such as colorful autumn foliage in fall, and tree ice and a sea of clouds in winter.

Preparations

Weather conditions can change suddenly near the summit, so it is essential to be prepared with warm clothing, rain gear, and comfortable walking shoes.

Sacred Spring

A little further down the trail next to Tsurugi Shrine, you will find a spring of water called " Oshikimizu" (divine water). Drink the sacred water of Mt. Tsurugi, selected as one of the 100 best water in Japan, to quench your thirst.
