Surfing School: Enjoy the Fun of Riding the Waves! (Beginners Welcome!)
Glare Surf Shop is a surfing shop located in Tokushima City that is close to Komatsu Beach. In addition to selling and repairing surfboards and other surfing-related goods, our shop offers a surfing school. We conduct about 500 lessons each year, and the majority of participants are able to take off and enjoy surfing on the first day! Instructor Fukuda, Tokushima's first JPSA (Japan Pro Surfing Association) certified pro longboarder, gives careful lessons that, more than anything, are fun. This school is recommended for those who want to get into surfing or try a new hobby. You don't need to prepare anything, so come and enjoy us for a fun and lighthearted surfing experience! Friends, families, and solo learners are all welcome. ♪ [Surfing Points] Komatsu Beach Surfers of all experience levels, from beginners to advanced surfers, all the way to pros, can enjoy surfing at this beach. Located just off of the Tokushima Interchange, it is a popular spot for both those living in Tokushima, and those from other prefectures. The beach is also only a 1 minute walk from Glare Surf Shop. [Meeting Place] Glare Surf Shop Our facilities include a shower room, changing room, lockers, and a restroom, so there is no need to worry. Additionally, our shop also has a café attached to it, which is a popular resting spot for surfers. After riding some waves, take a break with a hot cup of coffee. [Number of Participants] 1 - 5 Participants [Required Time] Approximately 3 Hours Including Preparations [Points of Caution] ・Depending on the wave conditions, the activity may be pushed forward or back by 1 hour. This plan includes a ticket to the Awa Jurobe Yashiki Puppet Theater and an original postcard present! ◆ Enjoy Tokushima's traditional art of puppet theater (known as “Awa Ningyo Joruri” in Japanese), which was fostered by the prefecture's environment and history. ◆ After enjoying a performance, check out the Exhibition Room and even try operating a puppet. ◆ Those who purchase this plan will receive an original Awa Jurobe Yashiki Puppet Theater postcard as a present. ＜Awa Ningyo Joruri Puppet Theater – A Performing Art that Reflects the Sensibilities of the Japanese＞ The puppet play “Keisei Awa no Naruto” is a tale of family tragedy based on Jurobe Bando, a village headman who was sacrificed and killed in 1698 for a crime he didn’t commit. The Awa Jurobe Yashiki is the former residence of Jurobe Bando, and is related to the play “Keisei Awa no Naruto”. This play is performed daily at the Awa Jurobe Yashiki, and this type of puppet performance, known in Japanese as “Awa Ningyo Joruri”, is a national Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property. A narrator known as a “tayu” recites the story, adding emotion to each part, and a gidayu shamisen (three-stringed Japanese instrument) supports the tayu with a diverse array of tones that can’t be expressed in staff notation. The puppets are each performed by three people, a true rarity in the world. The sensibility of the Japanese can be seen through these puppets and their movements. 【Ai Take no Uchi Kobo】Aizome Indigo Dyeing
【About Ai Take no Uchi Kobo】 The owner, Yoshiko Takeuchi, is in her 80s and still pouring her heart into indigo dyeing. Come and visit, and enjoy indigo dyeing with a warm-hearted grandmother who knows a lot about history! Yoshiko's mother-in-law, Akiko Takeuchi, was born in 1919 and was designated by the prefecture as an "Intangible Cultural Heritage (Art Techniques) on March 3rd, 1982. In her youth, she worked as a roketsu dyer, and in 1973 she studied under Shokichi Watanabe, a dyer in Gifu Prefecture, and learned techniques for indigo dyeing and researched indigo dyeing methods. The indigo dyed by Akiko Takeuchi was truly fitting for the prefecture of indigo - Tokushima. Continuing on the dream of her mother-in-law, Yoshiko Takeuchi reopened the workshop "Ai Take no Uchi Kobo" in 2017. 【About the Aizome Indigo Dyeing Activity】 Guests will dye either a cotton handkerchief, gauze towel, or cotton bandana. Dried Fish Making & Tasting!
Try making dried-fish using delicious fish from Naruto ! For this activity we use mackerel and horse mackerel, which are comparatively easy to handle. These fresh fish are carefully selected from those raised in the whirlpools of the Naruto Strait. This activity is okay even for children who have never touched raw fish before! Our staff will carefully explain how to prepare the fish and be there to support you during the entire process. At Toyota Shoten, we take full advantage of our great location on the Oge Kainan Dori and spare no time or effort in making dried-fish by hand each day, utilizing our special techniques. Plenty of exposure to the sun and salty sea breeze of Naruto erases the fishy smell and aids in the formation of the umami ingredients glutamic acid and amino acid, resulting in a top-quality taste. While waiting for the fish to dry in the sun, enjoy tasting some of Toyota Shoten's prized dried-fish. The taste of dried-fish while gazing out at the Naruto Sea from the terrace and listening to the sounds of waves, is truly amazing. Take your hand-made dried fish home with you as a souvenir. This activity will certainly serve as an irreplaceable travel memory! Try making tokoroten using natural tengusa seaweed taken from the Naruto Strait! Natural tokoroten has a smooth and tender texture, and tastes exceptionally delicious. Our staff will teach you how to make tokoroten, as well as some interesting trivia! While it's boiling, challenge yourself with the Tokoroten Quiz Tournament! It's a great way to have fun with friends and family. ♪ While the tokoroten is cooling, we will make ponzu sauce using citrus fruit juice, so you can enjoy the fragrance and umami of hand-made ponzu sauce. Once the tokoroten has hardened, it's time to use the tokoroten noodle maker. The jelly like feeling is a lot of fun! After it is finally finished, enjoy slurping some tokoroten while gazing out at the beautiful Naruto sea.
