Yamainudake
This mountain is located 997 meters above sea level in the center of Kamikatsu Town. It is one of the best places to see moss in Tokushima Prefecture from July to October. It is a natural sanctuary where deep green moss grows in clusters on the rocks, creating an almost mysterious atmosphere. It takes about an hour's walk from the nearest parking lot, and you should make sure to wear comfortable walking clothes as the paths are steep because they used to be training paths for mountain priests in the past.
-
Amagoi Falls
Amagoi Falls is 45 meters high and has a three-tiered waterfall. The water volume is high and never dries up throughout the year. The roar of the waterfall as it falls straight into the basin is spectacular and the fresh green leaves in early summer are especially beautiful. The area can also be enjoyed throughout the year, with the changing leaves in the fall and snow in the winter.
-
Awa no Dochu (Earth Pillars)
This is a landform consisting of dozens of earthen pillars created by the erosion of sand and gravel beds over a long period of time. Hatougatake, the largest of them all, was designated a national Natural Monument in 1934 and was selected as one of the 88 Scenic Spots in Shikoku in 2017.You can look down on it from above, and the view is thrilling. The shape of the earth pillars changes from moment to moment, so this is a must-see sightseeing spot.
-
Okawara Plateau
This plateau is approx. 1,020 meters above sea level and offers a spectacular view of the Asan Mountains and the Kii Channel in the distance. It is also a famous place for hydrangeas, and during the rainy season, 30,000 of them are in full bloom. This is a sightseeing spot with ranches and windmills that can be easily reached within an hour's drive from downtown Tokushima. The temperature is 4 to 5 degrees cooler than in the city, so even in summer you can enjoy the beautiful scenery while feeling a cool breeze.
