Cape Kamoda is the easternmost cape on Shikoku Island, located in Anan City, Tokushima Prefecture. The view from the lighthouse is spectacular, and on a clear day, you can see the bridge connecting Shikoku and Awaji Island, as well as Wakayama Prefecture across the Osaka Bay. The nearest beach is famous as a spawning ground for loggerhead turtles. In 2010, a heart-shaped monument featuring waves and wind was installed and has become a popular photo spot.
Highlights
-
1
Chalk Lighthouse
The lighthouse is located about 50 meters above sea level and the large square window-like object is an irradiation light used to signal the vessel's position on the water. It was installed in 1972 to protect the safety of those at sea.

2
Morning Sun
Cape Kamoda is famous for "Daruma sunrise," a rare phenomenon when the sun rising from the horizon looks like a Daruma doll. Daruma sunrises are said to bring good luck to those who see them because the probability of seeing them is very low.

Heart-shaped Monument
This monument is called "Poem of the Waves" and it has attracted a lot of attention in recent years as a spiritual hot spot for the fulfillment of love. The lighthouse has also been selected as a "lighthouse to fall in love with" by the Japan Romantic Association.

Spawning Ground for Sea Turtles
The sandy beach to the north is one of the few loggerhead turtle spawning grounds in Japan. During the spawning season (May-August), loggerhead turtles may be seen coming ashore late at night to lay their eggs.
Wear Appropriate Shoes and Clothes
This is necessary because you will be walking along the beach, which has large stones, as well as going up steep stairs.
Kamoda-misaki Onsen
This onsen is located at the foot of the cape and nearby there is a rest area and café, so stop by and relax after walking around the cape.
