Hyotanjima Cruise

Tokushima has many rivers flowing through it, and the urban area where Tokushima City Hall and Tokushima Station are located is actually on a sandbar with a circumference of 6 km. This cruise, which lasts approx. 30min, takes passengers around the sandbar called Hyotanjima (lit: "gourd island"). Looking out over the cityscape while feeling the fresh breeze, you will be able to experience a different side of Tokushima.

Access and Parking

There are no signs directing visitors to the area, but if you head for the Ryogoku-bashi Bridge, you will see the boarding area at the foot of the bridge. There is no dedicated parking lot, so please use the nearby coin-operated parking.

Captain Guidance

The captain will provide commentary as you sail along the river, making the experience even more enjoyable. The 30 minutes will fly by as you are introduced to Tokushima's history, scenery, bridges and embankments, as well as the captain's knowledge and love of his hometown.

Stone Wall on the Seawall

Partway along the cruise you will see the repaired seawall made of Tokushima's blue stones, which was restored thanks to the activities of the "Shinmachi River Protection Group," that operates the Hyotanjima Cruise. This was done to protect the river and pass it on to the next generation.
